Bills, Steelers both failed on $10.5 million star WR who was traded elsewhere in AFC

Apparently, the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers each picked up the phone about Jakobi Meyers.

But in the end, it was the Jacksonville Jaguars who got the trade over the finish line with the Las Vegas Raiders for their star wide receiver.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini wrote on X: “The Bills and Steelers were among the teams that inquired about Jakobi Meyers. Ultimately, Jacksonville — who placed Travis Hunter on IR last week – seals a deal for the ex-Raider.”

Buffalo and Pittsburgh are both viewed as teams that could use WR help before the 4 p.m. ET deadline.

The Bills thought they were set at the position with the likes of Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir and offseason signings Joshua Palmer and Elijah Moore.

Coleman hasn’t gotten open enough, Palmer is hurt and Moore has been ineffective.

Bills Mafia certainly wants a new wideout, although it seems the Bills’ priorities may be more on a defensive addition or two.

The Steelers set themselves up for this the moment they traded George Pickens to the Cowboys. Rather than pairing new guy DK Metcalf with Pickens, the Steelers just replaced Pickens with Metcalf.

That left Calvin Austin as the No. 2 WR, and while he’s speedy and solid, Pittsburgh could certainly use some help at wideout.

The Steelers even have good momentum in the building coming off a win over the previously 7-1 Colts, so it’d only increase vibes to get a deal done.

There are other wide receivers on the market, so the Bills and/or Steelers might still have a chance to get someone. But it won’t be Meyers.
