Popular Milwaukee tool recalled over serious safety hazard

BROOKFIELD, Wisconsin — Milwaukee Tool is recalling nearly 100,000 of its M18 FUEL Top Handle Chainsaws after reports that the chain brake may fail to activate, posing a risk of getting seriously cut, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recall involves model 2826-20 with either a 12-inch or 14-inch bar. The affected units can be identified by a serial number containing the letter “A” in the fourth position. About 90,860 chainsaws were sold in the U.S. and another 7,500 in Canada, the USCPS said.

Milwaukee Tool has received two reports of the chain brake not working properly, including one incident that resulted in a slashed finger, according to USCPS.

Consumers are urged to stop using the chainsaws immediately and contact Milwaukee Tool for a free repair. Owners can register at Milwaukee Tool’s eService portal to obtain a prepaid shipping label for returning the product.

The chainsaws were sold from March 2023 through September 2024 at Home Depot stores, online at homedepot.com and through authorized distributors. Prices ranged from about $350 for the tool alone to $790 for kits including batteries and a charger.

For more information, consumers can call Milwaukee Tool toll-free at 833-953-2012 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or visit the company’s recall page.
