Cowboys acquire a $96M star defensive tackle from the Jets for a first-round pick

The Dallas Cowboys are trading for Jets Pro Bowl DT Quinnen Williams, sending a first-round pick and more to NY
In a move that should improve an awful defense, the Cowboys are finalizing a trade to acquire Jets All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. The move comes hours after Dallas acquired middle linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals. Along with a 2nd round and a future 1st rounder pick, the Jets are acquiring defensive tackle Mazi Smith. Williams, 27, was a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Alabama. He has been named to three consecutive Pro Bowls and has 40 sacks across 98 career games (94 starts).
The Jets are 1-7 in their first year under head coach Aaron Glenn, and after trading Sauce Gardner to the Colts, appear to be stockpiling enough picks to land the No. 1 overall pick and the top quarterback prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Williams is set to become a free agent after next season, and he’s currently in the middle of a four-year, $96 million extension and has been a standout through the first eight games, logging 32 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and one sack.
