Damage, Debris and Power Outages Reported Due to Storm in Metro

Power outages and some wind damage is being reported in a number of areas of the island.

Westerland Road in St. John’s is closed to traffic due to debris blowing around in high winds. Loud banging can be heard, suggesting that something is loose and blowing in the wind.

A caller to VOCM News says the barricades at the construction site on Wyatt Boulevard have been knocked down and are scattered on both sides of the road, while the ruts cut into the road have filled with water and are washing out.

Severe weather conditions are reported as the cause of outages affecting a number of areas.

Anyone driving or walking should be mindful of the winds, the rain and falling debris such as tree branches.

A bus driver says it is nasty out there.

He says branches are falling in the centre city and it’s dangerous for kids. He says schools in metro should have been closed at lunchtime.

Snow is falling on the west coast, causing slippery road conditions.
