Motorway closed after lorry crashes into 2 cars as drivers warned over delays

A MAJOR UK motorway has been closed after a heavy goods vehicle barrelled across the central reservation and collided with two other cars.

The M40 in Warwickshire remains closed after the horror crash in the early hours with emergency services racing to respond to the scene.

Traffic cameras on the busy road show motorists queuing at the crash site

Traffic on the busy motorway has ground to a halt between J15 Warwick and J12 Gaydon after the lorry smashed across the road.

It remains unclear if any serious injuries were reported in the horror incident.

Police, ambulances and fire crews all responded to the incident alongside National Highways traffic officers.

During the crash the central reservation barrier was significantly damaged, National Highways said.

Emergency repairs to the motorway’s central reservation will be required once the chaotic scene has been dealt with.

Drivers are warned to expect severe delays on the road and are asked to plan their route accordingly.

Motorists stuck in the closure have since been released and the northbound carriageway has re-opened.

National Highways said: “The M40 in Warwickshire remains closed southbound between J15 (Warwick) and J12 (Gaydon) following a serious collision. Traffic within the closure has now been released.


The northbound carriageway has re-opened with a lane 3 closure between J12 & J13.

Drivers have been warned to expect delays as the emergency services work to bring the chaotic scene under control
