A severe weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for parts of Gloucestershire today (Tuesday, November 4) into Wednesday morning.

The 18-hour alert runs from noon today until 6am tomorrow and covers parts of west Gloucestershire, just stopping short of Gloucester.

But areas not in the yellow warning area are also due some heavy downpours today, with lighter rain due into the early hours of Wednesday.

The Met Office has warned of the risk of surface flooding and travel disruption.

It added: “Following recent bouts of wet weather, rain is expected to turn more extensive and heavy at times during Tuesday afternoon.

“20-30 mm of rain is expected widely, with some exposed south facing hills of the Brecon Beacons and Dartmoor likely to see in excess of 50 mm.”

South West Met Office forecast

Today : Mostly dry in some eastern counties at first, but outbreaks of rain already in the west, soon spreading eastwards giving most places a very wet afternoon. Surface water flooding and travel disruption possible later with southerly winds strengthening. Very mild. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight : Wet and windy this evening with heavy rain for many and further periods of rain or drizzle overnight. Coastal mist and hill fog developing widely. Winds easing later. Very mild. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Wednesday : Another largely cloudy day with rain at times, this occasionally heavy, mainly in the west. The driest and brightest conditions across eastern counties. Very mild but breezy in coastal regions. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday: Staying mild or very mild on Thursday and Friday with showers or longer periods of rain, interspersed with brighter spells. Probably drier, brighter and fresher on Saturday. Breezy at times.
