Whyalla test looms for BlueScope’s history-making new CEO

A potential consortium bid for the Whyalla steelworks looms as a big early test for incoming BlueScope chief executive Tania Archibald, with investors urging the steel maker not to overstretch itself in any move to buy the loss-making plant.
Archibald, currently head of BlueScope’s Australian steel business, will become the company’s first female CEO when she takes the reins in February from Mark Vassella, who will step down after eight years in the role.
