‘Most Bizarre’ – Shocking Hawkeye Incident and Chair Umpire’s Error in Miomir Kecmanović, Kamil Majchrzak’s Athens Match Enrages Fans

Tennis fans recently reacted to a bizarre incident during the match between Miomir Kecmanović and Kamil Majchrzak at the 2025 Hellenic Championship. The incident involved Hawk-Eye technology and an error by the chair umpire.

Kecmanović faced Majchrzak in the first round of the ATP 250 hard court tournament in Athens, winning with a score of 7-6(4), 7-6(4). This victory marked the third time the Serb has defeated Majchrzak in their three encounters on the ATP Tour.

How Did the Tennis Community React to Miomir Kecmanović — Kamil Majchrzak Hawkeye Incident at Hellenic Championship?

During the first-round match between Kecmanović and Majchrzak at the Hellenic Championship, the Serb missed a backhand shot that clearly went out. Yet, he was awarded the point. The Hawk-Eye technology failed to make the call, and the chair umpire also remained silent. Even Majchrzak barely objected, and so the match continued without interruption.

The incident drew various reactions from the tennis community, who took to social media to share their thoughts and opinions. One fan called it “one of the most bizarre things” they had seen in a while.

“one of the most bizarre things I have seen in a while. Kecmanovic hits a shot 3 feet out, gets awarded the point, Majchrzak barely argues at all, announcers say that Kec lost the game and then make no mention at all that the game inexplicably continues,” a fan posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Another fan wondered why players were not more vocal about faulty electronic line calls, noting that this incident was not an isolated case.

“I don’t get why players are not complaining it is not first time that I see that happening,” a fan posted.

Tennis insider Ben Rothenberg commented that this incident contributes to the “thick and growing file” of wrong electronic line calls in 2025.

“Watched replay of this match to see what unfolded, and sure enough, they gave Kecmanovic the point and the game played on, to the confusion of commentators. Kecmanovic looked like he thought he’d lost the game, too, but the ball kids gave him balls to keep serving and he did,” Rothenberg wrote.

“Adding this to the thick-and-growing file of bad ELC f*ck-ups in 2025…” he added.

Looking ahead, Kecmanović will face third seed Luciano Darderi in the second round of the 2025 Hellenic Championship. Before the ATP 250 hard court tournament in Athens, the Italian participated in the 2025 Paris Masters, where he lost in the first round to wild card Arthur Cazaux with a score of 6-7(5), 6-7(4).

Kecmanović and Darderi have faced each other three times on the ATP Tour, with the Serb winning two of those matches. Their most recent encounter was in the third round of the 2025 Winston-Salem Open, which Kecmanović won 6-3, 6-1.

The winner of the second-round match between Kecmanović and Darderi will advance to face either fifth seed Alexandre Müller, qualifier Mackenzie McDonald, or Tomás Martín Etcheverry in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

In addition to his singles campaign at the ATP 250 hard court tournament in Athens, Darderi is also competing in the doubles event. He has partnered with Thiago Agustín Tirante, and they are set to take on the fourth-seeded pair of John Peers and JJ Tracy in the first round.
