Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan asserts that the Washington agreements between Armenia and Azerbaijan create new prospects not only for bilateral relations but also for the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). He made this statement while speaking at the international forum “Orbeli: Building Peace and Multilateral Cooperation.”
Pashinyan recalled Baku’s decision to lift restrictions on cargo transit to Armenia. The first shipment of Kazakh grain, as previously reported, will arrive in Armenia via the Aktau-Baku railway, and then via the Azerbaijan-Georgia railway.
Therefore, Pashinyan believes that Central Asian countries are also among the first beneficiaries of the unblocking of transport routes in the South Caucasus. Unblocking the region benefits not only Armenia and Azerbaijan, but also Iran, Georgia, Turkey, and Russia, he emphasized.
“Many argue that these processes run counter to the interests of the EAEU. But what was impossible between the two Eurasian Union countries before these agreements became possible after the Washington Agreements. This is a simple example of the advantages they offer,” Pashinyan stated.
Similar opportunities could open up for Uzbekistan. According to him, there is a great desire to deepen economic and political relations with Uzbekistan, but there are numerous logistical challenges along the way, which these projects will also help resolve.
“Following the Azerbaijani president’s statement, we immediately declared our readiness to ensure the transit of trucks from Turkey to Azerbaijan and back through Margara and Khndzoresk. Currently, this is the only route on which all roads and infrastructure are ready,” the prime minister said.
