Newcastle United have flipped the script and it could be about to get even better imminently

What a difference a week makes for Newcastle United, who can soon tick off another milestone this season.

Following the defeat away at Brighton in the Premier League, Newcastle United have lifted some of the doom and gloom around their season with three crucial home victories.

Wins over Benfica, Fulham and Tottenham have progressed their position in the league, Champions League and Carabao Cup.

It now feels as if Eddie Howe’s side can look up this season and what they will see heading towards them on Sunday should offer another heavy dose of optimism.

Newcastle United offered great chance to build on momentum against West Ham

Winning at St James’ Park is one thing. Howe has largely made it a fortress since his appointment in November 2021 and while it’s not to be taken for granted, home form has rarely been an issue.

Results and performances on the road this season, however, have been. Newcastle haven’t won an away game in the Premier League this season. They’ve drawn three times, lost once and have only scored one goal.

On Sunday, they have the perfect chance to get that crucial away win. Hosts West Ham haven’t won at home all season and Newcastle boast a fine record at the London Stadium.

They’ve lost only once in eight games there and look heavy favourites to pile yet even more pressure on new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

It is perhaps the best possible game Howe could ask for as he looks to keep the momentum riding high.

When playing a team in such poor form, it’s important not to overlook them.

Nuno is a fine manager and while his reign has so far been a disaster, that doesn’t mean he won’t eventually turn things around.

West Ham have shocked Newcastle before. They beat Howe’s side at St James’ Park almost a year ago in what was one of the most disappointing results since the PIF takeover.

Newcastle have been predicted to beat West Ham and the form both teams are in would suggest they should. Football, of course, doesn’t really work like that.

Anything other than three points would be multiple steps back from a Newcastle perspective.
