The Diplomat is back on Netflix with a third season and it sees Kate Wyler (played by Keri Russell) take on a new role she was not expecting.
Keri Russell is a 49-year-old American actress who has been recognised for her TV roles since the 90s.
Born in California, she has an older brother and a younger sister, and the family travelled regularly due to her father’s work as a Nissan Motors executive.
She won a Golden Globe Award in 1999 for her role in the drama Felicity, and earned four additional nominations for her roles in The Americans and The Diplomat.
In 2017, she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions to TV.

One of her first roles was when she was 15 years old, when she appeared in the Disney Channel’s revival of The Mickey Mouse Club.
Being a dancer in middle school and high school helped her earn a spot on the show.
She was a regular cast member on the show from 1991 to 1994 and during this time, made her film debut in Honey, I Blew Up the Kid.
From 2013 to 2018, she starred in the series The Americans opposite Matthew Rhys, who played her character’s husband.
The on-screen couple became partners in real life during this time.

The Diplomat star used to be married to Shane Deary, a Brooklyn-based contractor she met through mutual friends.
They wed in 2007 and have two children – a son and a daughter.
The couple divorced in 2014 and since then, she has been in a relationship with Welsh actor Matthew Rhys – known for his roles in Brothers & Sisters and Perry Mason.
They have a son together and although they fondly refer to one another as husband and wife, they are not married.
The couple have expressed their keenness to work together again, and Russell told People her partner could “totally” join the cast of The Diplomat.
“I think that would probably be more in his court,” she added, stating they would love to work together again.
“But he’s pretty busy doing a million other things. He’s got, like, five other jobs or something,” she said.
