Calls Mount for ESPN to Fix Major Cowboys-Cardinals Mistake Impacting Fantasy Football Matchups

Through three quarters of Monday Night Football in Week 9, the Dallas Cowboys‘ offense has struggled to do much of anything against the Arizona Cardinals. Facing a 27-10 deficit in the fourth quarter, the only unit that’s been able to reach the end zone tonight is the special teams.

However, after ESPN failed to include the points from the blocked punt and ensuing recovered touchdown in the Cowboys’ D/ST score in fantasy football, fans were quick to criticize the sports platform on social media.

Fans Call Out ESPN After They Don’t Count Cowboys’ Special Teams TD

Towards the end of the second quarter, facing a 10-0 deficit, Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams blocked a punt from Cardinals punter Pat O’Donnell with fellow Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland falling on the football in the end zone to score Dallas’ only touchdown.

While it seemed to be a momentum turner, the Cardinals proceeded to march down the field on the ensuing possession to score another touchdown to regain their ten-point lead.

However, ESPN’s fantasy app failed to update after Dallas’ only touchdown of the night, which sent fans over the edge as they continued to search high and low for points from the Cowboys squad. Many fans tagged ESPN’s fantasy app directly, as seen in this example from a fan who said, “@ESPNFantasy give Cowboys D/ST sic points for touchdown!!!!”

Fan continues to hassle the fantasy outlet with another calling them out on X, posting, “@ESPNFantasy give Dallas D/ST the six points for the blocked punt touchdown! This is ridiculous!”

As the game progressed into the second half, fans wouldn’t let up, with some commenting on the X account’s highlights from a Cardinals’ third-quarter touchdown to Trey McBride. This user continued the tired message well after the play, “Give the Cowboys defense their six points for that touchdown.”

However, many seemed to be genuinely confused as to why a seemingly routine play that has happened during the 2025 season and many times before has not been updated in the ESPN fantasy app. This user pleaded with the website, saying, “Yoooo, ESPN update fantasy will ya? Cowboys D with a tuddy.”

It will be interesting to see if the app will finally catch up or if ESPN fantasy football managers will be waiting for a stat correction on Tuesday.

For the Cowboys to pull off a win, their offense needs to step up in the fourth quarter and perform like it has for most of the season. According to PFSN’s Offense Impact metric, Dallas has the third-best offense in the league.
