Key Facts

Greene, who has been increasingly critical of her own party in recent weeks, said on the talk show that it was Republicans who failed to plan ahead for the upcoming expiration of federal tax credits under the Affordable Care Act, the major issue dividing Congress and driving the continued government shutdown.

She called for an extension to the subsidies—the primary goal of the Senate Democrats—and said she “yelled at (Republican House Speaker) Mike Johnson” on a recent GOP conference call over her party’s handling of the shutdown.

She also likened the ongoing tensions between Democrats and Republicans to a “p—ing contest in Washington, D.C., between the men,” specifically calling leadership in the House and Senate (led by Johnson and Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., respectively) “weak Republican men.”

Greene broke with Trump on several issues while speaking on “The View,” including his endorsement of Andrew Cuomo for New York City mayor, his support of the Israeli government, his administration’s failure to release files pertaining to Jeffrey Epstein and his potential military action in Venezuela.

The Republican congresswoman, who once was one of Trump’s fiercest supporters, admitted the president may not “love” her recent criticism of the party and said, “Well, that’s OK. I mean, Donald Trump, he usually yells at everybody. So, we’re all used to it.”

She said she still “loves” Trump, and confirmed “I’m not a Democrat… I think both parties have failed. Both parties have failed.”

Crucial Quote

“The government has failed all of us and it purely disgusts me,” Greene said on “The View.” “The worst thing that I just can’t get over is (Congress is) not working now and I put that criticism directly on the Speaker of the House.”Surprising Fact

Surprising Fact

Greene’s highly anticipated interview on “The View” was a noncontentious affair. The women who host the program have often gone after the outspoken congresswoman—Alyssa Farah Griffin recently referred to her as a “blind squirrel”—but Greene blamed their past criticisms on being victims of the “political industrial complex.” Greene called out the hosts for having “attacked me many times,” but said those attacks were based on “things you’ve read about me that weren’t true, or clips you’ve seen.” Host Sunny Hostin said she was “sitting here just stumped” by the civil conversation, adding, “You’re a different person than I thought you were.” Greene, who has viciously attacked Democratic congresswomen like Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jasmine Crockett, called for women to stand together and fight against the country “being ripped to shreds.”

Key Background

Greene was one of Trump’s most vocal supporters during the last election cycle. She said Trump would “make America successful again” and has passionately defended him against criticism. She’s often made headlines for her outlandish behavior, including chasing down school shooting survivor and now-Democratic Party official David Hogg to accuse him of being funded by George Soros, suggesting wildfires in California were started by a laser beam from space under the control of the Rothschild banking family and her promotion of debunked theories that prominent Democrats were running a pedophilia ring out of a Washington, D.C., pizzeria. Over the last six months, however, she’s been lauded as an unexpected “Republican voice of sanity” as she breaks with her party and Trump. “I’m not some sort of blind slave to the president, and I don’t think anyone should be,” Greene told NBC News. “I got elected without the president’s endorsement, and, you know, I think that has served me really well.”
