The A592 has been closed at High Kingate, roughly halfway between Troutbeck and the Kirkstone Inn, following a significant landslip caused by recent heavy rain.

The emergency closure was put in place yesterday (Wednesday 5 November) after the landslip partly undermined the carriageway.

Westmorland and Furness Council said to ensure public safety, the road will remain closed while technical and safety assessments are carried out.

A signed diversion is in place via the A6.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “Safety of road users is our main priority and this emergency closure is necessary to assess the situation and determine what needs to be done.

“Further updates will be provided when we know more.”
