Football Bet of the Day: Go for goals in Zagreb on Thursday

After frustratingly falling a goal short at Portman Road on Tuesday, Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to the Europa League, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

⚽️ Dinamo Zagreb vs Celta Vigo

🇪🇺 Europa League

⏰ Thursday 6 November, 17:45

Two clubs separated by a solitary point in the Europa League league phase table meet at the Stadion Maksimir on Thursday evening as fourth-placed Dinamo Zagreb hosts ninth-placed Celta Vigo in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

Dinamo Zagreb kicked off their Europa League campaign with a pair of 3-1 victories, first defeating Fenerbahce in the Croatian capital and then beating Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv in neutral Hungary.

However, it looked like Mario Kovacevic’s men were going to suffer their first defeat away at Malmo on MD3 as they trailed by a goal to nil, but a 96th-minute equaliser preserved their unbeaten record, leaving them just two points behind the three sides at the top of the league phase table.

Domestically, after four consecutive wins at the start of the campaign, the record Croatian champions have gone on to win just four of their next eight (W4-D1-L3), but their 2-1 win at home to Rijeka at the weekend did move them within a point of leaders Hajduk Split.

Celta began their Europa League campaign with a 2-1 defeat away to reigning DFB Pokal winners Stuttgart, but Claudio Giraldez’s men have since bounced back with a pair of victories at Balaidos.

The Galicians defeated Greek side PAOK 3-1, before backing that up with a 2-1 victory over Nice, moving them up into ninth position in the league phase table.

After a slow start to their La Liga campaign in which they were winless in each of their opening nine matches (W0-D7-L2) – remarkably drawing seven of them 1-1 – Los Celestes have claimed consecutive wins away to Osasuna and Levante to climb up to 12th in the La Liga table.

Bet of the Day

Dinamo Zagreb’s opening seven league and European matches on home soil this season have averaged an eye-catching 3.43 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals paying out in all seven (100%) of them (3-0, 3-0, 1-2, 3-1, 4-1, 2-1 & 2-1).

Celta’s previous eight La Liga/Europa League matches have averaged 3.13 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals paying out in six (75%) of them (1-2, 1-2, 3-1, 1-1, 1-1, 2-1, 3-2, 2-1), including in each of their three continental clashes

Goals at both ends have been a regular occurrence in matches featuring these two sides this season, which should lead us to an open and high-scoring encounter in the Croatian capital on Thursday night.

  • Over 2.5 Goals
  • Pays 10/11 (Various)
