Lego and Star Trek finally collaborated on a massive Starship Enterprise

Lego is boldly going where several TV shows have gone before with its next offering. In exciting news for Trekkies, the company is releasing a build of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D, as seen in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

To mark the occasion, Lego recreated the iconic sci-fi show’s opening credits using minifigures and bricks — and some of that Lego humor we love from the games — to introduce the sprawling cast and many pieces of the set.

The clip is narrated by Jonathan Frakes, who played Commander William Riker on the series, serving as second in command to Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and while it’s great, there’s so much more to the set than a short teaser can provide.

This set consists of 3,600 pieces, making it about half the size of Lego’s gargantuan Millennium Falcon build, yet this is a massive build in its own right. It also features something the Millennium Falcon set doesn’t, and that’s a modular build. You can detach the large command saucer from the Enterprise, making it far easier to not only build in pieces, but move without the fear of dropping and shattering it. Naturally, it also comes with a display stand, so you can show the finished piece off.

The real joy is in the details of the set, though. According to Lego, this Enterprise includes a shuttle bay (with two mini shuttlepods), red and blue detailing on the warp nacelles, and nine different minifigures with accessories:

  • Captain Jean-Luc Picard with teacup
  • Commander William Riker with trombone
  • Lieutenant Worf with phaser
  • Lieutenant Commander Data with Spot the cat
  • Dr. Beverly Crusher with PADD
  • Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge with tricorder
  • Counselor Deanna Troi with PADD
  • Bartender Guinan with drink
  • Wesley Crusher with portable tractor beam generator

While this is a pretty comprehensive set, it’s also going to cost you. The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D is priced at $399.99. There’s an added incentive for buying early, though. Between Nov. 28 and Dec. 1, a purchase of the Lego Enterprise will also include a Type-15 Shuttlepod build that comes with an Ensign Ro Laren minifig, making 10 total minifigures for the Enterprise set.

The Enterprise NCC-1701-D build will go on sale via Lego’s website and stores on Nov. 28, just in time for all the nerds in your life to ask to get one for the holidays.
