Conservative MP Resigns, Bringing Liberals One Seat Closer to Majority

The Liberals are another seat closer to a majority government in Ottawa.

Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux, who represents Edmonton-Riverbend in Alberta, has resigned his seat in the House of Commons.

A couple of days ago, Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government was three votes from a majority. Yesterday that gap narrowed to two after Nova Scotia MP Chris d’Entremont crossed the floor from the Conservatives to join the Liberals.

He indicated at the time that other Conservative MPs were dissatisfied with the direction of the party.

It will be a couple of weeks before the House has to vote on the budget, but many political observers expect that it will pass.
