RISK OF NEAR-FREEZING TEMPERATURES

Following the strong cold front, Coastal MS could be in for a rather cold round of temperatures. The coldest temperatures are expected from Monday night into Tuesday morning, based on the latest trends. That’s when the thermometer could fall all the way down to near-freezing or even below-freezing in parts of Coastal MS.

Early indications are for lows in the lower to middle 30s. This would be cold enough for harm people and pets as well as damage plants. These types of temperatures are typically not cold enough to threaten pipes. However, the exact forecast numbers are still being fine-tuned based on the latest data. So, check back for further details and any adjustments in the coming days.

FREEZING IN NOVEMBER? IS THAT UNUSUAL?

When you look at the numbers, South MS actually usually sees its first freeze of the season around mid-November. Some towns are a little earlier and some are a little later.

The first freeze of the season usually happens in November or December based on the long-term averages of decades and decades of weather records.(wlox)

In this part of the country, there can be a lot of variation when it comes to freezing temps; not just town-by-town but also in one single town year-by-year.

The first freeze of the season has happened for the Gulfport-Biloxi area at some point between November and January every year recently. However, each year has been a little different.(wlox)
