Olympiacos 1-1 PSV – Ricardo Pepi scores injury-time equaliser for PSV

Substitute Ricardo Pepi scored deep in stoppage time to earn PSV a point and deny Olympiacos their first win in this season’s Champions League.

Following two tricky away games that ended in defeat at Arsenal and Barcelona, Greek side Olympiacos were hoping to find comfort on home soil and they made the perfect start when Gelson Martins drove in a superb strike in the 17th minute.

PSV had thrashed Napoli 6-2 in their previous Champions League outing, but were nowhere near as threatening in this match and had managed just one shot on target inside 90 minutes.

Instead, Olympiacos should have scored more with Martins hitting the crossbar in the second half, while Daniel Podence also went close, but the former Wolves man saw his strike parried by Matej Kovar.

It felt like they would be made to rue their missed opportunities and so it proved when Pepi volleyed home in the 93rd minute.

Olympiacos’ players looked devastated at full-time, having come so close to a first three points in the league phase of the Champions League.
