Hyderabad’s Cyclists Embrace Perfect Riding Weather Ahead of Upcoming Events

Before dawn breaks in Hyderabad, a vibrant community of cyclists is already traversing the city’s streets and scenic trails. This time of year, which spans from October to February, provides optimal riding conditions, and cyclists of all ages are gearing up for numerous events to celebrate their passion. From weekday morning rides to longer weekend adventures and festive day excursions, enthusiasts are seizing the moment in the joy of cycling.
Ravinder Nandanoori, the founder of the Hyderabad Cyclists Group, reflects on how the cycling community has flourished since he took up the sport in 2017. What began as a small gathering of three to four riders has evolved into a thriving network of over 10,000 cyclists. With the upcoming cyclothon adding excitement to their rides, he notes, “We’d be out there anyway — it’s part of our lifestyle.” The group’s training regimen combines endurance rides, sprint sessions, and hill training, covering iconic spots like the Dr. BR Ambedkar statue, Tank Bund, and the hilly areas of Mahendra Hills and Jubilee Hills.
Sampath Uppala, an IT professional who began cycling for fitness in 2021, emphasized the communal aspect of the sport. “The diversity of our group, ranging from young adults to septuagenarians, enriches our experience,” he said, mentioning their monthly target of 700-800 km, which includes long rides to destinations such as Tiruchy in Tamil Nadu. These initiatives also serve a dual purpose: not only do they promote physical wellness, but they also foster awareness by sharing their journeys across social media.
For Priya Langote, a member of the Bike-O-Holics, the autumn months are a peak cycling season. “The weather is perfect for our regular rides,” she explained. A dedicated group of around 14-15 cyclists meets early on weekdays, typically starting their rides around 5:30 AM to finish by 8 AM, allowing them to head to work. Their routes are diverse, taking them to peaceful locations like Wipro Lake, Forest Trek Park, and even to spiritual sites such as Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple in Sangareddy. Their commitment to cycling is unwavering, regardless of the upcoming cyclothon, blending enjoyment with fitness.

Radha Valasareddy, a corporate professional associated with the Hyderabad Cycling Revolution, highlighted the motivating spirit of the community. “When we ride together, it transforms the experience into a celebration,” she says, noting that safety is a top priority for them. They ride four to five times a week, adhering to lane discipline and traffic rules, and they cap off each ride with a cherished ritual: enjoying chai and bun maska together.
The ever-growing camaraderie among cyclists in Hyderabad echoes throughout the city as they enthusiastically explore their favorite trails. Popular cycling hotspots include Pala Pitta Cycling Park, Osman Sagar, and Ananthagiri Hills, further contributing to the vibrant cycling culture that continues to thrive.
