Weather forecasters said the season’s first snow in southeast Michigan could fall this weekend.
Snow showers are possible from Sunday into Monday, according to a National Weather Service forecast for the Detroit area.
There is a 40% chance of rain Thursday night and a 90% chance during the day Friday, but temperatures are expected to remain well above freezing, according to NWS. More rain will settle into the area Sunday and could turn into snow overnight, when lows will drop to around 27.
Snow could persist into Monday, the weather service said, until temperatures climb back into the high 30s.
If snow falls Sunday, it will be just a bit earlier than southeast Michigan’s average date for first measurable snowfall, which is Nov. 16. The earliest snow on record in the area came on Oct. 12, 2006, according to NWS.
According to the weather service’s three-month seasonal outlook, there is a slightly above-average chance for greater than normal precipitation totals in Michigan through January 2026, while temperatures have a slightly above-average chance at being greater than normal over the same time period.
There were three days with measurable snowfall during November 2024, according to NWS readings taken at Detroit Metro Airport.
