Baltimore City Fire Department giving out free smoke alarms for people hard of hearing

The Baltimore City Fire Department is giving out free Lifetone HL Smoke Alarms to residents who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Working smoke alarms decrease the risk of dying in a home fire by more than 50%, according to officials.
The specialized smoke alarms use “patented monitoring technology to actively listen for the sound of your smoke alarm — alerting you at the first signs of danger.”
Features of the alarm:
- Bed shaker: device that shakes your bed to wake you up if there is a fire
- Bright lights: flashes the word “FIRE” in big, bright letters
- Voice alerts: says clear, loud words to help you know what to do
- Compatibility: works with your existing smoke alarms, which alerts you when those alarms are activated
Family members or caregivers can also get a specialized smoke alarm for a loved one who lives in the city.
