Baltimore Fire: Massive Blaze Erupts in Commercial Building on West 23rd Street In Remington

Thick smoke blanketed Baltimore’s Remington neighborhood Friday afternoon as firefighters battled intense flames shooting from a commercial structure on West 23rd Street, according to SKY 11. The fire broke out in a 100×100 commercial building, prompting a defensive operation as the blaze rapidly spread through the structure.

Emergency crews evacuated nearby homes as the blaze grew too dangerous to fight from inside, and residents reported hearing explosions before the sky turned black with smoke. The Maryland Transit Administration has implemented a temporary southbound detour for the LocalLink 94–Fort McHenry bus until 5 p.m. due to fire activity in the area.

According to scanner reports and the Baltimore City Fire Department (@BaltimoreFire), multiple fire units remain on scene, working to fully extinguish the blaze and prevent further spread. The massive fire has torn through much of the building, forcing firefighters to maintain a defensive stance as thick smoke continues to blanket the Remington neighborhood.
