Robbie Williams Flashes Back to 1995 for New Video “Pretty Face”

Share:

Robbie Williams is known the world over for his pop anthems that have filled stadiums around the globe — but for his new project, he’s turning back the clock a bit.

The English pop superstar‘s new studio album, Britpop, will be released on Feb. 13, 2026. It’s been previewed so far with a few songs that mostly harken back to his early era, after he broke away from the boy band Take That to forge a solo career.

Those early songs came during the height of the Britpop movement, when Oasis and Blur were kings with unmistakable swagger and an edge that was felt worldwide.

“Pretty Face,” one of the pre-release singles from Williams’ new album, has a new music video shared this week. Musically, it’s a guitar-forward, Britpop-inspired rock song that fits the bill of the record’s theme.

Visually, this video is a treat. It’s a nostalgic flashback to the U.K. variety show The Word, which aired from 1990-95 and brought musical acts and entertainment to audiences each night.

In this video, Williams’ look is straight out of ’95 — bleach-blond hair, Adidas track jacket, the whole nine yards — while energized fans dance around, the whole clip featuring stylized VHS screen blips that you’d see on an old video cassette in your VCR (if you remember those):

Said Williams with the video:

This is my “DeLorean Moment” back to 1995 .. The Word was the late-night gateway to so many – Nirvana, Oasis, Happy Mondays…

If BRITPOP is the album I would have made, then THIS would have been the TV show…. now a (virtual) reality.

The video is the work of director Charlie Lightening and features VFX work from AIST — a company that combines AI capabilities working hand-in-hand with actual filmmakers.

“Rocket,” which introduced Williams’ Britpop era with a punk-fueled anthem featuring none other than Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, who provides a ripping solo:

Also available is a more stripped-back arrangement of “Rocket”:

“Spies”:

“Human,” featuring Jesse and Joy, was also debuted:

Said Robbie Williams of the record in a statement:

“I set out to create the album that I wanted to write and release after I left Take That in 1995. It was the peak of Britpop and a golden age for British Music. I’ve worked with some of my heroes on this album; it’s raw, there are more guitars and it’s an album that’s even more upbeat and anthemic than usual.

There’s some ‘Brit’ in there and there’s certainly some ‘pop’ too – I’m immensely proud of this as a body of work and I’m excited for fans to hear this album. RW ”

The track listing:

1. Rocket
2. Spies
3. Pretty Face
4. Bite Your Tongue

This new musical era for Williams comes on the heels of the 2024 film Better Man, a quirky biopic of the singer and his cheeky personality.

The film, directed by Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman), was a critical darling, amassing an 89% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie’s innovative concept — Williams is portrayed throughout as a chimpanzee thanks to actor Jonno Davies and some cutting-edge special effects — and slightly offbeat take on the classic “biopic” concept was refreshing.

And while Better Man didn’t quite resonate with audiences at the box office — especially in the United States, where Williams has never quite caught on as a pop star — the film is a great time and is well worth a watch for anyone remotely interested in its concept.

It’s also perhaps even better suited for those who DON’T consider them Robbie Williams fans, because its storytelling and quick wit ought to appeal to anyone.
