Roy Keane Outfit Choice Pays Subtle Tribute To Late NFL Star He Once Broke Golden Rule For

While the outfits on display are often a topic of conversation prior to the start of each episode of Stick to Football, Roy Keane certainly caught the eye with his attire during this week’s edition.
The Cork man appeared on set sporting an NFL jersey, the type of outfit that you would never really see him wearing during his television or Stick to Football appearances.
As it turns out, there is a fairly sad and touching story behind this particular outfit choice.

He donned the jersey to pay his respects to a former NFL star that sadly passed last month.
A player I met two years ago, Nick Mangold. I only met him briefly when I went to the Jets game about two years ago, it would have been Aaron Rodgers’ first game.
I met him before the game, did a bit of PR. He signed it on the back, on the top there.
He passed away last week at 41 years of age. I just threw it on as a bit of respect and shoutout to him. It’s very sad.
I swapped over, gave him a United jersey. I had a chat with him before the game, really cool guy, top man.
So I paid a little bit of respects to the man. Very sad.
Nick Mangold would pass away from kidney-disease complications on October 25th, having battled the illness for almost two decades.
He was a top class centre in the NFL during his playing career, spending a decade with the New York Jets. He would earn seven pro bowl appearances during that period, as well as three All-Pro nods.
Roy Keane would meet Mangold ahead of a game between the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills in September of 2023, swapping jerseys on the day.

This was an exception to Keane’s long-held rule about not swapping jerseys, something he did on only one occasion during his own playing career.
Nick Mangold clearly made a lasting impression on him, with the wearing of his jersey a really nice touch.
