The Inbetweeners actor Joe Thomas has broken his silence on the sitcom’s return following confirmation of a reboot.
Despite running for just three series and spawning two cinema releases, the noughties comedy The Inbetweeners remains amongst Britain’s most beloved sitcoms.
The Channel 4 programme centred on socially awkward mates Will McKenzie (played by Simon Bird), Simon Cooper (Joe Thomas), Jay Cartwright (James Buckley), and Neil Sutherland (Blake Harrison) as they navigated – often disastrously – their adolescent years.
The series aired between 2008 and 2010, with films following in 2011 and 2014.
Discussion of a revival had been non-existent until news emerged this month that arrangements had been finalised to resurrect The Inbetweeners.
Distributor Banijay UK and Fudge Park Productions, the company established by creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, have reached an understanding that “paves the way for the return of the hit comedy title”.

The 42-year-old actor, who played Simon Cooper, has now addressed speculation surrounding the programme’s comeback, acknowledging that developments are underway.
That said, he’s kept details of what supporters might anticipate fairly under wraps. Thomas revealed: “I can’t really say anything more than what’s already been put out there, which is basically that a deal has been struck between Fudge Park and Banijay, which means that it’s now possible to do more.
“I haven’t seen anything from them about what that might be, so I’m sort of, to a certain extent, waiting to hear as well.”
The creators, Morris and Beesley, have already confirmed that the reboot will not centre around a new group of characters.

In a statement, they humorously clarified: “Incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends).”
However, there hasn’t been any hint yet whether this revival will take the form of a new series or another film.
Previously, actor Bird mentioned that a reunion might not be feasible as the writers are “very busy these days”, but he added that the cast would “be happy” to stage a comeback.
The Inbetweeners is available to watch on All4.
