The Inbetweeners star finally breaks silence as long-awaited reboot confirmed

The Inbetweeners has been missing from our lives for almost 10 years after the second film marked the end of the hilarious franchise.

The Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas has addressed the sitcom’s comeback after news broke of a reboot earlier this month.

Noughties sitcom The Inbetweeners may have only run for three seasons and two follow-up films, but it still remains one of the most popular British sitcoms.

Will McKenzie (played by Simon Bird), Simon Cooper (Joe Thomas), Jay Cartwright (James Buckley), and Neil Sutherland (Blake Harrison) were at the heart of the Channel 4 hit as the socially awkward friends tried – and mostly failed – to make the most of their teenage years.

The sitcom ran from 2008 to 2010, followed by two films, one in 2011 and another three years later.

A word hadn’t been uttered about the show making a comeback until earlier this month that a deal had been struck to bring The Inbetweeners back to life.

Distributor Banijay UK and production company Fudge Park Productions, the latter which was founded by the show’s creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, have made an agreement that “paves the way for the return of the hit comedy title”.

Now, actor Joe Thomas, who portrayed Simon Cooper, has finally spoken out about talk of the show returning, confirming that something is in the works.

However, the 42-year-old has remained reasonably tight-lipped on what fans can expect.

Thomas shared: “I can’t really say anything more than what’s already been put out there, which is basically that a deal has been struck between Fudge Park and Banijay, which means that it’s now possible to do more.

“I haven’t seen anything from them about what that might be, so I’m sort of, to a certain extent, waiting to hear as well.”

Creators Morris and Beesley have already confirmed that the reboot will thankfully not be focussed on a new set of characters.

In a statement, they humorously clarified: “Incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends).”

But there has been no indication as of yet that this reform will come in the shape of a new series or another film.

Previously, actor Bird stated that a reunion couldn’t be on the cards as the writers are “very busy these days” but nevertheless said that the cast would “be happy” to make a comeback.

The Inbetweeners is available to watch on All4.
