Stephen King’s Latest Remake Gets a Glowing Review From Tom Cruise

The Running Man remake from Stephen King will arrive in theaters everywhere next weekend, and the film just got a glowing review from one of the biggest movie stars on the planet. Tom Cruise took to his personal X account to share a photo of himself at a screening of The Running Man, along with star Glen Powell, where he sang the praises of the new action movie. “Another great night out with my friends at the movies!” Cruise shared. “You guys crushed it, congratulations! I laughed, was on the edge of my seat, and ate way too much popcorn.”
In addition to a large group of fans in the background, Cruise and Powell also posed with several of Powell’s Running Man co-stars, including Emilia Jones, Colman Domingo, and Lee Pace. Josh Brolin also has a role in the film, but he’s hard at work on the press tour for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which may be why he missed this special screening. The review embargo for The Running Man hasn’t lifted yet, so the film has no Rotten Tomatoes score, but it’s already winning the hearts of movie fans like Tom Cruise.
The film is a remake of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie of the same name and is based on the popular Stephen King novel. Edgar Wright wrote and directed The Running Man with help from Michael Bacall on the script. Glen Powell recently confirmed that Arnold Schwarzenegger has seen the new Running Man movie, and he loves it, saying it’s the first time that King’s novel has been faithfully adapted to the screen.
Will ‘The Running Man’ Be Glen Powell’s Biggest Movie?
The Running Man has no chance of becoming Glen Powell’s biggest movie ever, largely thanks to his role as Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick. The film grossed roughly $1.5 billion at the box office, a number that Paramount would be thrilled to see The Running Man make half of. Powell also headlined Twisters last year, another soft reboot that grossed $372 million at the global box office. Even his rom-com with Sydney Sweeney grossed over $200 million, so The Running Man has some steep competition if it’s going to become one of Powell’s biggest films. It will also depend heavily on reviews, which will be coming in the next week.
