Strong storm threat for late Friday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Stay weather-ready this afternoon and evening

FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY – TODAY

We’re tracking the risk for strong to severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and into the evening in Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. Areas along and west of I-65 are at a level 2/5 on the threat scale, and it’s a 1/5 elsewhere across the Midstate.

An isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out early this afternoon, but we’re mostly watching a window between 4 -11 p.m. for our highest risk for severe weather.

The main storm threats will be heavy rain and damaging winds, but storms could also have small hail, and I cannot rule out an isolated tornado.

FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS – MONDAY AND TUESDAY

Monday morning’s start temperature will be 30 degrees (our first freeze of the season), but the wind will make it feel like the 20s or even the high teens. A few snow flurries will be possible. Even lower temperatures are expected on Tuesday morning. Temperatures will dip into the 20s for the entire Midstate. A hard, killing freeze appears likely for most then.

Saturday afternoon: An isolated shower or thunderstorm will be possible toward evening. Rain chance, just 20%. High, 72.
