Blue Jays’ Springer wins Silver Slugger award at DH

Toronto Blue Jays’ leadoff hitter George Springer has won the MLB Silver Slugger Award at designated hitter, beating out Yandy Diaz of the Tampa Bay Rays and Brent Rooker of the Athletics.
Springer, 36, had a resurgent 2025 campaign. The former World Series MVP set a career-high with a .309 batting average, the first time he’s hit over .300 in a season, with a .399 on-base percentage and .959 OPS. In 140 games, Springer hit 32 homers, tallied 84 RBI, and scored 106 runs, mostly hitting out of the leadoff spot. All three were his highest totals with the Blue Jays.
Springer also won the Silver Slugger in 2017 and 2019 while with the Houston Astros.
He was also nominated for the award at outfield, which was won by Yankees captain Aaron Judge, Minnesota Twins’ Byron Buxton, and Detroit Tigers’ Riley Greene.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was nominated for the award at first base but lost to the Athletics’ Nick Kurtz. Guerrero Jr., 26, hit 23 home runs last season to go along with 84 RBI and 96 runs scored while slashing .292/.381/.467. Kansas City Royals’ Vinnie Pasquantino was the third nominee at first base.
Guerrero has previously won two Silver Slugger awards in 2021 and 2024.
Bo Bichette was nominated for the award at shortstop but was beaten out by the Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr. Bichette had a bounce-back season in 2025 after struggling with injuries for much of 2024. The 27-year-old tied a career-high with a .311 batting average and had an OPS of .840 over 139 games, his highest mark since his 46-game rookie campaign (.930) in 2019.
Bichette finished second in the American League in total hits (181), three behind Witt Jr., despite missing the final three weeks of the regular season due to a knee injury. He finished the season with 18 home runs, 94 RBI, and 78 runs scored in 139 games.
Jazz Chisholm of the New York Yankees took home the Silver Slugger for second base, and Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez took home the award at the hot corner.
The Yankees won the Team Silver Slugger award, beating out the Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners.
