What’s affected?

According to Reddit there is some “degraded performance” on desktop web, mobile web and native mobile apps, but what does that actually mean?
For me the problem initially manifested as issues with commenting, getting an “Empty Response from Endpoint” error on the Android app. though this isn’t uncommon, and I was still able to browse threads at my leisure. However that seems to have cleared up, and I’ve been able to brows different threads without issue.

Reddit has confirmed the problem is real

This isn’t some kind of mass hallucination or panic, Reddit has confirmed that the platform is facing some issues right now. The site’s service page confirmed that the issue was being investigated from 4.27 PST, later updating at 4.44 PST to confirm that the problem has been identified and that a fix is in the works.
The service page also confirms that there is some “Degraded Performance” on Desktop, mobile web and all native mobile apps. I’ve experienced some of this myself, having been unable to leave comments on posts — despite still being able to browse some content in my feed.

The story so far
According to Down Detector, problems started being reported at around 6.50 a.m. EST / 3:59 a.m. PST. Within half an hour that spike in reports exceeded 20,000 reports, showing how quickly this problem has arisen.
The fact the east coast is now waking up, and likely checking their feeds as they get ready for work, will have exacerbated the number of reports being received.
