The Disney comedy, which reunites Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, opened in theaters on August 8 and continues the story of mother-daughter duo Tess and Anna Coleman, who famously swapped bodies in the 2003 hit film. According to the official synopsis, the sequel “picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter (Julia Butters) of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter (Sophia Hammons).”

We attended a special “Freakier Friday” event in Los Angeles, held at the filming location of the movie’s unforgettable bachelorette party scene. The celebration featured themed activations, exclusive memorabilia, and plenty of nostalgic fun for fans of the franchise.
Stars Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Haley Hudson — a member of Pink Slip from the original film — joined fans at the event, sharing behind-the-scenes stories from the sequel’s production.

Director Nisha Ganatra also attended, offering insights into how she balanced humor and chaos while filming the movie’s biggest scenes.
“It was just so fun,” Ganatra said. “When you have Vanessa Bayer, everything’s gonna be funny, especially with Lindsay and Jamie involved. I really wanted to get the switch right, because that’s the magic of the movie. If you don’t buy that moment, everything falls apart.”
She called the film’s four-way body swap one of the most complex sequences she’s ever directed.
“Oh my God, it was so confusing on the page,” she laughed. “You’re really directing eight performances with four actors. It’s super challenging, but they made it look easy.”

When asked about a potential Freakier Friday 3, Ganatra teased, “I think it’s time for the guys to swap. But to me, the joy of ‘Freakier Friday’ is the celebration of sisterhood and chosen family — just unapologetic female energy.”
“Freakier Friday” is now available (Oct. 7) on digital platforms (Amazon, Fandango, Apple TV) and streaming on Disney+ on Nov. 12.
