Hyderabad–Hanoi Flight Cancelled After 10-Hour Delay? Passengers Protest At Shamshabad Airport

Flights at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) faced major disruptions on Friday (November 7) and Saturday (November 8) following a glitch in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).

According to reports, at least 21 flights operating between Delhi and Hyderabad — including 10 departures and 11 arrivals — were delayed on Friday.

Among the worst affected was flight VN-984 to Hanoi, Vietnam, which was delayed by over 10 hours.

Passengers bound for Hanoi were stranded overnight at Shamshabad airport, as their flight, originally scheduled to depart at 11:55 pm on Friday, was rescheduled to 10 am on Saturday due to a technical snag in the aircraft. As of now, there is no confirmation on whether the flight has taken off.

The prolonged delay triggered chaos and frustration among passengers, who demanded clear communication and accountability from airport authorities.

“Since last night, the airport staff has been repeatedly postponing the flight. Now they say it has been indefinitely delayed, but they won’t confirm whether it’s been cancelled,” one passenger said, visibly upset. “We’ve spent nearly ₹3 lakh on this international trip to Vietnam, yet there’s absolutely no accountability. They’re telling us the next flight is only after two days, but no arrangements have been made for passengers in the meantime. Even our checked-in luggage hasn’t been returned,” one of the passengers rued.

Apart from the Delhi-Hyderabad sector, flights to Goa and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) also experienced delays.

Meanwhile, the ATC glitch in Delhi — caused by a failure in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) — was resolved on Saturday. The disruption led to delays of over 800 flights and 26 cancellations across India’s busiest airport.

In a late-night statement, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) said it “deeply regrets” the inconvenience caused to passengers and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring “the highest standards of operational safety, reliability, and service excellence” across the country’s air traffic management network.
