An Update From AD Jon Gilbert

Pirate Nation:

We have plenty of action on the Grady-White Boats Athletic Campus over the next two weeks with basketball season officially tipping off inside Minges Coliseum and back-to-back home football games at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.

Thank you to our incredible fans for the tremendous support you’ve shown our football team this season.

Our schedule has been a bit unorthodox with four Thursday night games and only two games in October, but head coach Blake Harrell has done a tremendous job of keeping the team focused and prepared each week. It will be nice to finish the home portion of our schedule with back-to-back Saturday afternoon games. We announced yesterday the Memphis game on Saturday, November 15 will kick off at 4 p.m. on ESPNU.

Sitting in a tie for first place in the conference, we’re excited about where we stand with four regular season games remaining. Our players, coaches and staff have worked extremely hard to put themselves in this position and have earned the opportunity to play meaningful games down the stretch.

It’s critical that we have strong attendance for our final two games to create a special environment for our team. We are doing a special promotion for Saturday’s game – $12 tickets in the upper level. Click here to purchase the tickets.

Please help spread the word to family and friends – let’s fill the seats. Football ticket revenue is essential for us to compete at the highest level and support all of our student-athletes across ECU Athletics.

This weekend is one of the best of the year with all the different events surrounding Homecoming and Letterwinners/Hall of Fame festivities. More than 300 of our letterwinners will return to campus for a weekend of fellowship, including several of our current NFL players.

On Friday evening, we will proudly induct the newest members of the ECU Athletics Hall of Fame with high jumper Tynita Butts-Townsend, quarterback Shane Carden, wide receiver Justin Hardy, wide receiver/kick returner Dwayne Harris, athletic director Terry Holland and wrestler Daniel Monroe.

The group will also be recognized on the field during the first quarter of Saturday’s game.

Here’s a list of the game day entertainment and the recognitions that will take place:

  • Parking lots open at 9:00 a.m.
  • Tailgate Plaza will open at 9:00 a.m. with The Embers featuring Craig Woolard performing beginning at 12:30 p.m.
  • Our newest football Hall of Fame inductees – Shane Carden, Justin Hardy, Dwayne Harris – will lead the team in the Pirate Walk at 12:55 p.m.
  • Hall of Fame Class will be recognized in the first quarter.
  • The 1981-82 women’s basketball team will be honored as this year’s Team of Distinction in the first quarter. The team, led by head coach Cathy Andruzzi, earned one of only 32 invites to the inaugural NCAA Women’s Tournament.
  • Members of the 2025 Pirates baseball team will receive their American Conference Tournament Championship rings at the end of the first quarter.
  • The ECU Captain of the Ship will be announced to kick off halftime festivities. The Captain of the Ship program recognizes students who make outstanding contributions to ECU through their campus and community involvement, as well as their efforts to support the success of other Pirates.
  • At halftime, stay in your seats as our Letterwinners take a lap around Bagwell Field accompanied by a performance from the Marching Pirates.

Opening week for basketball season
The Pirates women’s basketball team, led by head coach Kim McNeill, opened their season last night with a win against UNCW and will be back in action on Friday at Liberty before returning home on Tuesday, Nov. 11 to host Charleston Southern.

Head coach Mike Schwartz and the Pirates men’s basketball team open their season tonight against Georgia Southern at 7 p.m. in Minges Coliseum. The first 100 fans in attendance will receive a Court Rally Towel sponsored by TowneBank.

Pirates earn All-Conference honors
Congratulations to our student-athletes who earned American Conference postseason honors:

Purple-Gold World Series set for weekend
The ECU Baseball team will be in action this weekend for the annual Purple-Gold World Series at Clark-LeClair Stadium. Admission is free.  First pitch on Friday is 3:45 p.m., Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and Sunday at 12:15 p.m.

Let’s make Homecoming weekend one to remember and continue to show why there’s nothing like Pirate Nation!

Go Pirates!

Jon
