Blackburn vs Derby preview
After winning only two of their opening ten league matches, Blackburn looked set for a long hard season but a run of three successive victories has pulled them seven points clear of the relegation zone and Rovers will be out to deny former boss John Eustace on his return to Ewood Park
It is not just about the victories for Valerien Ismael’s side, but also the opponents they have faced, as their winning run has seen them beat Southampton and Leicester – two sides that were playing Premier League football last season – as well as playoff hopefuls Bristol City.
Blackburn have scored five goals during that winning run and have now netted in six of their last seven games, while their last four at Ewood Park have featured goals at both ends.
If Blackburn’s form is good, then Derby’s is even better, with the Rams having won four straight to move into the top half of the table and within striking distance of the playoff places.
Eustace, who will be keen to get one over his former club, has seen his side rediscover their scoring touch of late, putting three past Sheffield United in their last away fixture before scoring two against Hull in midweek, although they did concede in both of those games.
Goals have also been a theme of recent meetings between this pair, with each of the last five head-to-heads featuring a minimum of three goals and seeing the net bulge at both ends, including a 4-2 success for Blackburn when the two teams last met in in August 2024 – a match where Eustace was in the home dugout.
Given the form of these two sides, Saturday’s lunchtime clash could be another high-scoring affair.
Ohashi not afraid to let fly
Blackburn forward Yuki Ohashi reached double figures for goals last season and after a slow start this term, he has netted two in his last four, including the winner at Bristol City on Tuesday.
The Japan international has comfortably managed the most shots (32) and efforts on target (14) of any Rovers player this season, and after testing the opposition goalkeeper nine times in his last five games, he can have at least two more shots on target on Saturday.
Home advantage could edge things Blackburn’s way
Three of the last five league meetings between this pair have finished 2-1 one way or another and a repeat outcome could be on the cards.
With home advantage, it is Blackburn fancied to maintain their winning streak as they go in search of a seventh home success on the bounce against Derby, who haven’t left Ewood Park with even a point since October 2015.
Blackburn vs Derby Bet Builder
Blackburn to win
Blackburn have won six home matches on the bounce against Derby and although both teams have winning momentum, Rovers’ recent successes carry more weight and they can get one over their former boss Eustace.
Over 2.5 goals
Blackburn have scored in six of their seven home matches across all competitions but are without a clean sheet at Ewood Park all season. With Derby netting five across their last two games, the goals should flow in Lancashire.
Carlton Morris to score at any time
Derby might end up losing this game but nine-goal leading scorer Carlton Morris can get on the scoresheet. The former Luton star has notched five goals in his last three games, including a hat-trick at Sheffield United in the Rams’ most recent away trip.
