A CCTV video from a jewellery shop in Ahmedabad’s Ranip area has gone viral, showing a woman throwing chilli powder at the jeweller, who reacts immediately and repeatedly slaps and hits the woman before pushing her out of the shop.
As the footage shows, the woman seems to be a customer sitting in a chair at the jeweller’s shop. As the jeweller and the woman seem to be talking, the woman suddenly flungs chilli powder in the shopkeeper face.
The shop owner, however, reacts swiftly and manages to grab her, then starts slapping and hitting her repeatedly. He then climbs on top of the counter while continuing to hit her. Then kicks her out the shop, after which she flees the place.
The CCTV recording of the incident has since been widely circulated on social media, prompting the local police to initiate a probe.
Although the jeweller reportedly chose not to file a formal complaint, Ranip police have begun an inquiry on their own, tracing the woman’s identity through the video footage.
Officials said efforts are underway to locate the woman and ascertain whether she was part of a larger attempt to rob the jewellery store.
