Salford and Cambridge share points from goalless draw

Salford and Cambridge had to settle for a point each from a largely uneventful Sky Bet League Two goalless draw.

Karl Robinson’s third-placed Ammies recorded their second consecutive clean sheet at home in a game featuring few clear-cut chances.

After a quiet, scrappy opening, Salford missed a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 21st minute when Kelly N’Mai flashed a low drive narrowly wide.

Kylian Kouassi, returning to the club where he spent last season on loan, headed tamely at Salford goalkeeper Matthew Young after half-time.

Grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck, Cambridge attacker James Brophy curled a shot wide from the edge of the box and struck powerfully at Young midway through the second half.

Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu rattled a post with a dipping volley as the away side pressed for a breakthrough with 20 minutes to play.

With time running out, Salford centre-back Adebola Oluwo headed wide from a corner.

But the home side failed to register a shot on target in the match and were comfortably held at home.
