Irish designer Catriona Hanly has sadly passed away.
The Roscommon native was well-known as a fashion designer and socialite, and her designs were worn by celebrities in Ireland and abroad.
Her death notice on RIP.ie reads: “It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Catriona Hanly, Parkowen, Strokestown, Co. Roscommon and Dublin, peacefully on Saturday 8th November 2025.
“Lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her heartbroken family. Beloved daughter of Bertie and Imelda, cherished sister of Alan, Marcus, Enda and Tara, sisters in law Olga, Linda and Sinead, brother in law Neil. Fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, neighbours, and a wide circle of friends in Ireland and around the world.”
The death notice on RIP.ie can be found here.
Wolf Of Wall Street actress Madison McKinley and Yolanda Kettle of The Crown have both worn Caitriona’s designs, as well as Laura Whitmore, Claire Byrne, Amy Huberman, Vogue Williams, Amanda Byram, Victoria Smurfit, Lorraine Keane, Anna Daly, Daniella Moyles, Ash Quinn, Alison Canavan, Celia Holman Lee and Vivienne Connolly.
Caitriona was well-known not only for her designs and creativity, but also her generosity when it came to charity. Speaking to RSVP in 2021, she said: “I have worked with the Rape Crisis Foundation, the Hope Foundation, the Cancer Care West charity, the Pink Ribbon Foundation, the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, the Respect Charity Summer Lunch fundraiser and the Breast Cancer Foundation – and I’ve organised fashion shows to raise money for such worthy causes.”
Catriona, who studied fashion design at the prestigious St Martin’s College in London, was the daughter of Bertie and Imelda Hanley, who acquired and restored the historic Lough Rynn Castle in Co. Leitrim and Kilronan Castle in Co. Roscommon.
She previously cited her mum as the person who introduced her to the world of fashion.
“I was introduced to the world of fashion at a young age, when my mother would constantly change me from one dress to another,” she told RSVP. “I have also found creativity in travelling around the world, but unfortunately with Covid I have not been able to do this recently. Throughout my life I have always taken inspiration from seeing the diversity of fashion and fabrics in other cultures.”
