Hurricanes claim G Cayden Primeau off waivers from Maple Leafs

After spending the pre-season in Raleigh, Cayden Primeau is on his way back.

Primeau suited up for three games with the Maple Leafs, putting up a 2-1 record with a 4.30 goals-against average and a .838 save percentage.

He served as the team’s backup goaltender while Joseph Woll began the season away from the team on a leave of absence due to personal reasons.

The Hurricanes waived Primeau before the start of the regular season after the team acquired his rights from the Montreal Canadiens for a 2026 seventh-round pick in the off-season.

Last year, Primeau had a 2-3-1 record, with an .836 save percentage and a 4.70 goals-against average in 11 games with the Canadiens. He also had a 21-2-2 record, a .927 save percentage, and a 1.96 goals-against average in 26 AHL games with the Laval Rocket.

Over his seven-year NHL career, the Farmington Hills, Mich., native has a 15-25-7 record in 58 appearances, most of which came with the Canadiens.
