Big Ten picks: MLive’s predictions for Indiana-Penn State, Oregon-Iowa

Michigan and Michigan State are both off this week, but that won’t stop MLive’s college football writers from picking the rest of the Big Ten games.
That’s what they’ve done all season, against the spread. Here are the standings through 10 weeks:
Jacob Richman: 52-40
Aaron McMann: 50-42
Andrew Kahn: 42-50
Matt Wenzel: 40-52
Ryan Zuke: 39-47
This week’s games, all of which are on Saturday unless otherwise noted, are below. Kickoff times are Eastern and odds are courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook.
Northwestern at USC
Both teams played Nebraska most recently, with USC winning in Lincoln 21-17 Saturday and Northwestern losing there 28-21 the week before.
MLive staff picks:
- Northwestern +14.5: Richman, Zuke
- USC -14.5: Kahn, McMann, Wenzel
Indiana at Penn State
Indiana, No. 2 in the season’s first playoff rankings, has outscored its last two opponents by a combined 111-16. Penn State, coming off a loss to No. 1 Ohio State, is one of four teams without a Big Ten win.
MLive staff picks:
- Indiana -14.5: Kahn, McMann, Richman, Wenzel, Zuke
Ohio State at Purdue
The Buckeyes are No. 1 in the committee’s eyes, getting the edge over Indiana due to their offensive line and slightly better defense. Like Indiana, they’ll face a team that doesn’t have any Big Ten wins.
MLive staff picks:
- Ohio State -29.5: Kahn, Zuke
- Purdue +29.5: McMann, Richman, Wenzel
Maryland at Rutgers
These Northeast schools have met each year since joining the Big Ten in 2014. Maryland holds the 7-4 edge during that span, though Rutgers won last season’s matchup.
MLive staff picks:
- Maryland -1.5: Richman, Wenzel
- Rutgers +1.5: Kahn, McMann, Zuke
Oregon at Iowa
Iowa, not ranked by the AP voters, is No. 20 in the playoff rankings. Oregon is at No. 9. These teams have not met since 1994.
MLive staff picks:
- Oregon -6.5: Richman, Wenzel, Zuke
- Iowa +6.5: Kahn, McMann
Washington at Wisconsin
Two teams that haven’t faced off since 1992 will meet in Madison. Wisconsin is among the Big Ten teams still looking for a league win.
MLive staff picks:
- Washington -11.5: McMann, Richman, Wenzel, Zuke
- Wisconsin +11.5: Kahn
Nebraska at UCLA
UCLA is coming off a bye and won last year’s meeting in Lincoln. Nebraska, 3-3 in the Big Ten, hasn’t won more than three Big Ten games since 2016.
MLive staff picks:
- Nebraska +1.5: McMann, Zuke
- UCLA -1.5: Kahn, Richman, Wenzel
