‘Good Fortune’ Clip Sees Seth Rogen Struggling for Food as Movie Comes to Digital

Following its theatrical release in October, Aziz Ansari’s angelic comedy Good Fortune is coming home with its digital release, and we have an exclusive clip from the movie including behind the scenes commentary from Ansari and star Seth Rogen.

Good Fortune finds Keanu Reeves taking on the role of low-ranking guardian angel, Gabriel, who spends his time protecting people from dumb deaths, like crashing while texting and driving. However, he really wants more than this and wants to be the savior of lost souls. He then goes on a personal journey to save one particular person, Arj (Ansari), after he is fired from his job and hits rock bottom. However, his attempt to help by body-swapping Arj with his wealthy boss doesn’t turn out as planned.

Aziz Ansari Was “Intimidated” Directing Keanu Reeves

While Good Fortune is not technically Aziz Ansari’s first movie – his Being Mortal starring Bill Murray was shut down after controversial complaints about the Ghostbusters star’s on-set behavior – as the first movie he has completed and released, he has not yet had that much experience directing some big names in Hollywood. This made directing Keanu Reeves something of a daunting prospect. Ahead of the movie’s original release in October, Ansari told MovieWeb:

“It was definitely a little intimidating [at first] because I’m a kid of the 90s. I was born in 83, he’s an icon, and he’s someone I grew up watching. So it’s a little surreal to be working with him, but over time, I got comfortable. I love him, and he did such a great job, and he’s the soul of this movie, and his performance, I think, is so hilarious and thoughtful, and I can’t believe I was able to get him to do this with me.”

As well as being praised as a solid debut for Ansari, Good Fortune also comes with some brilliant comic timing from Reeves and Rogen, which helped the film to some strong, positive reviews from both critics and audiences.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 77% Tomatometer score, while audiences pushed it up a notch at 81%. One review from The Independent’s Clarisse Loughrey gave the film a “fresh” rating, and her comparisons to three other movies should give a good enough idea of what the movie delivers.

“Good Fortune is a cinephile’s comedy, patchworked from the likes of It’s a Wonderful Life (1946), Trading Places (1983), and Wings of Desire (1987).”

The film’s box office ended at $22 million (from a $30 million budget), but its arrival on digital, and a subsequent streaming release at a later date, will no doubt get many more eyes on a movie that deserves a shot among the big-budget spectacles and franchise movies out there.
