Gabby Logan, a prominent figure at the BBC since 2007, has reached a significant milestone in her broadcasting career by securing a coveted new role that she describes as a lifelong ambition. The 52-year-old presenter has been chosen as one of the hosts to succeed Gary Lineker on the iconic football show “Match of the Day,” sharing the responsibility with Mark Chapman and Kelly Cates.
Born into a sporting family as the daughter of former Welsh international footballer and manager Terry Yorath, Logan has always had a deep connection to sports. She is also a mother of two and is married to Kenny Logan, a former Scotland rugby star. This month, she will take on another exciting challenge by hosting the long-running BBC comedy quiz panel show “Have I Got News For You” (HIGNFY) for the first time. The show, a staple since 1990, features guests who answer questions based on the week’s biggest news events.
Although Logan is familiar with the program as a former guest, she expressed her excitement about leading an episode set to air on November 21. Teaming up with former Premier League stars Troy Deeney and Rob Green, she recalled feeling a rush of nerves before going on air. However, by the second week, she managed to find her rhythm, noting that the pre-show jitters had settled into a normal routine.
Logan’s fond memories of “Match of the Day” are rooted in her childhood, influenced by her father’s football career. She reminisced about the Saturday night tradition of watching the show with her family, which became a special moment for her as a child. “That music would play every Saturday night because he would come home from work – playing in a match – and watch his match on Match of the Day,” she recalled.
