On Episode 12 of The CineFiles, Chris Hrapsky, Jamie Rogers, and I talk about two new releases, the impact of AI on filmmaking and beyond, and a holiday classic from 1993.
We started with Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia, starring Jesse Plemons and Emma Stone. We all agreed that Lanthimos has another splendid and provocative film on his hands, and its bold swings and terrific performances are worth seeing in the theater. Next, Jamie and I talk about Nia DaCosta’s latest feature, Hedda, an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler featuring Tessa Thompson and Nina Hoss. We both felt lukewarm about the result. but for different reasons.
In the second segment, the three of us debated AI and whether it has a place in artistic creation.
For CineGift, Jamie recommended The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), an annual viewing in my household. Our conversation was brief but full of effusive praise. Then Chris recommends the next CineGift.
