Lightning’s Ryan McDonagh leaves game against Capitals

The Tampa Bay Lightning announced on social media that defenseman Ryan McDonagh left Saturday’s game against the Washington Capitals with an undisclosed injury and would not return.

McDonagh finished the night with one blocked shot and 6:19 of ice time.
Going into Saturday night, McDonagh, 36, has three goals and three assists for six points in 14 regular-season games, averaging 21:09 of ice time. Since being reacquired by the Lightning in a trade with the Nashville Predators in May 2024, McDonagh has seven goals and 30 assists for 37 points in 96 regular-season games.
Now in his 16th NHL season, McDonagh has scored 83 goals and recorded 343 assists for 426 points in 1,024 regular-season games with the Lightning, Predators and New York Rangers.
He’s also played in 196 career playoff games, scoring 12 goals and 56 assists for 68 points, winning two Stanley Cups with the Lightning in 2020 and 2021. He’s also made two other Stanley Cup Final appearances: in 2014 with the Rangers and 2022 in Tampa.
McDonagh, taken No. 12 overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, played in 38 AHL games with the Connecticut Whale, scoring a goal and seven assists for eight points. He also played three seasons in the NCAA with the University of Wisconsin, scoring 14 goals and 32 assists for 46 points and 119 games.
Going into the night, the Lightning went 7-5-2 with 16 points through their first 14 games. Forward Nikita Kucherov led the team in points with 14, by way of seven goals and seven assists. Jake Guentzel has a team-leading eight assists, while Anthony Cirelli is tied with Kucherov for goals with seven.
