Under Armour Signs Cale Makar to Multi-Year Partnership

It’s been announced that defenseman Cale Makar has signed a multi-year partnership with Under Armour, which includes “him representing the brand in competition and beyond the rink”. Makar joins Loren Gabel from the Boston Fleet in the PWHL as the only other professional hockey player to be signed with them and help promote the brand.

“As a kid, I grew up referring to my hockey baselayer as my Under Armour.” – Cale Makar.

Currently in his seventh season in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche, Makar has four goals and 14 assists for 18 points in 14 games, leading all defensemen in assists and points. He is coming off a historic season that saw him score 30 goals (career-high) and 62 assists for a career high 92 points, which helped him bring home his second Norris Trophy and finish in the top-10 voting for the Hart Memorial and Lady Byng Trophy.

His elite talent, strong character, and standout style make him an exceptional addition to our roster. This partnership reinforces our commitment to hockey and to backing athletes who are at the top of their game and inspiring the next generation. We can’t wait to see what Cale continues to accomplish with Under Armour in his corner.”

Under Armour already made a big statement in the world of hockey earlier this season when it announced a partnership with the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) and Bauer Hockey as the official outfitting and equipment sellers. Specifically, Under Armour becomes the exclusive supplier of game jerseys, practice jerseys, sublimated theme jerseys, and authentic replica jerseys for fans across all CHL Member Leagues. Under Armour will also be a part of the CHL USA Prospects Challenge, where they will produce and supply the custom-designed jerseys for Team CHL.

Under Armour has been in hockey since 2001, establishing a strong presence in locker rooms across Canada and the U.S. with its performance HeatGear baselayer, training gear, and footwear.

The Colorado Avalanche are off to a hot 8-1-5 start this season, currently sitting on top of the Central Division and the NHL in points. That success is largely due to Makar and what he brings to the Avalanche every night, and you can expect him to keep doing that every game. However, keep an eye on what he’s wearing while doing it—whether practicing on or off the ice, or playing on the ice with this new sponsorship.
