Janmark Nears Return, But Trade Rumors Linger Around Oilers Forward

Mattias Janmark is inching closer to returning to the Edmonton Oilers lineup. The veteran forward participated in his first full team skate of the season on Friday morning, and head coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed that Janmark is expected to make his season debut within the next two games.
Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic noted from the comments made by the coach, “Janmark is expected to make his season debut within the next two games. Janmark skated on the fifth line today. Knoblauch said Zach Hyman won’t play tomorrow vs. COL but added his debut should come within a week.”
Janmark’s Name Keep Popping Up in Trade Rumors
Despite the encouraging update, Janmark’s name continues to circulate in trade discussions. Frank Seravalli recently wondered on Oilers Now whether Janmark has “run his useful life” in Edmonton, while David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period listed him among potential trade chips as the Oilers look to create cap flexibility. He also said Troy Stecher, Ty Emberson, and David Tomasek could be trade candidates.

Janmark skated on the team’s fifth line during practice, signaling he may need to work his way back into a full-time role. Meanwhile, Knoblauch also confirmed that Zach Hyman will not play against the Colorado Avalanche but is expected to return within the next week.
With roster adjustments looming and the Oilers needing lineup consistency, Janmark’s return—and possible trade availability—will be worth monitoring as Edmonton seeks stability early in the season.
