Dobson extension lifts Jets ahead of Roar clash

The Newcastle Jets will face the Brisbane Roar with a spring in their step after homegrown star Will Dobson inked a new deal.
Ahead of the round four A-League Men’s (ALM) showdown at Sunshine Coast Stadium on Sunday 9 November, the teenager signed a contract extension.
The move should see the 18-year-old midfielder remain at the club until the end of the 2027/28 season.
Dobson kicked off his playing career with Belmont FC before linking with the Weston Bears.
He was then recruited into the Jets Academy in the under-15 age group.
From there, he made his ALM debut off the bench in the 2024/25 opener against Melbourne City.
The local junior went on to represent Newcastle on 12 occasions.
Dobson also played a critical role in the Jets’ 2025 Australia Cup-winning campaign, scoring in the quarter-final clash against Macarthur FC.
He featured in all the matches as Mark Milligan’s side lifted the trophy.
The young gun admitted he was thrilled to continue his footballing journey at “home”.
“I’m extremely happy to have re-signed,” Dobson said.
“I love the direction the club is heading under Mark.
“So, I’m very thankful to be given the opportunity to continue to develop and grow in this environment.
“I know what the Jets mean to the city… and region.
“And, I want to bring more joy to our loyal fans.”
Milligan, the Socceroos great, expressed his elation, too.
“We’re delighted that we have been able to secure ‘Dobbo’ until 2027/28,” he said.
“Will is a local lad who embodies what it means to be from the region and play for his home team.
“He boasts a fantastic work ethic and has so much growth in him.
“Our supporters should be excited to see him progress as a player and person over the coming years.”
Sunday’s encounter kicks off at 5pm.
