James Corden has admitted that he hit rock bottom while making the smash hit Gavin and Stacey. The star, who was able to break into the US market after the show struggled when filming for the third series ended.
At the time he thought the BBC show was over for good and that made him feel lost. To top it all off, James then suffered a major personal loss that left him devastated and wondering what would be next.
James said: “I remember that day feeling like I had broken up with a girlfriend. I felt like the only thing that anchored me in some way was Gavin and Stacey.

“Then we were on the last day,” he recalled. It was terrible. I was so sad that day.
“We were ending the show and I didn’t really know where I was going to live. I felt like I didn’t know anything. Genuinely that day was probably up there with the most emotionally lost I’ve ever felt.”
James, who played Smithy on the hit comedy, had a tough time throughout the filming for the series, which aired in 2009. He added: “I look back on series three as being quite challenging in many ways.

“When you write a show like this you do a series and another series. You get so used to seeing someone.”
After the third series ended, Gavin and Stacey returned for two more specials — in 2019 and 2024. James and co-creator Ruth Jones have now insisted it is over.
But despite James and Ruth officially declaring Gavin and Stacey to be over for good, there could be more on the horizon for fans of the smash TV show. The creators are reported to have signed off on a multi-million pound deal to create a spin-off series in collaboration with Apple TV.

“They wanted to bring something full of heart and warmth back to screens; water cooler moments for all the family,” the source continued. “Naturally there was a lot of interest around the script and a major bidding war to land this production.”
