Maple Leafs’ Laughton exits vs. Bruins with upper-body injury

The veteran centre left Saturday’s game against the Boston Bruins with an upper-body injury after taking a big hit from defenceman Nikita Zadorov in the second period.
After the game, head coach Craig Berube said the severity of Laughton’s injury is unknown and the forward will be out for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Laughton was sent to the ice in the Maple Leafs’ zone with around six minutes remaining in the period and did not return. Toronto defenceman Bobby McMann stepped to his teammate’s defence by fighting Zadorov immediately after the play.
The 31-year-old centre had logged 6:13 of ice time before departing with four hits, one shot and four faceoffs won.
Saturday marked Laughton’s second game of the season after he missed the first 13 games of the year with a lower-body injury that he suffered during the pre-season.
Laughton arrived in Toronto from the Philadelphia Flyers at last season’s trade deadline. He went on the play in 20 regular-season games with his new club, scoring twice and dishing out two assists.
