Newcastle blow as Joelinton forced off with nasty injury – but commentator slams Brazilian’s tiny shin pads

JOELINTON’s tiny shin pads were blamed after the Newcastle ace was forced off with injury early on against Brentford.

The Newcastle United midfielder went down after taking a kick from Dango Outtara and could not continue for long before being replaced by Jacob Ramsey.

The Brazilian saw Outtara go foot first into his shin after scraping the ball in a 50-50 but his leg was not protected.

Some bandaging from the physio did little to help Joelinton as he soon had to go off after another collision.

Despite seeing his afternoon ended prematurely, there was very little sympathy online as Joelinton was hammered for not wearing bigger shin pads.

One X user wrote: “Maybe Joelinton needs to get shin pads that actually protect his shins”.

Meanwhile, another said: “Should be fined for wearing shin pads that small.”

Someone else added: “If he wore proper shin pads he’d be grand.”

Images of Joelinton’s shin show a huge bruise halfway up his leg with a cut where Outtara’s studs had connected.

His veiny legs were soon back under cover by the small shin pads but it was not enough to impress the co-commentator who exclaimed that the injury simply never should have happened.

Newcastle went ahead before long with Harvey Barnes giving them the lead in London after some brilliant skill in the Brentford box.

Ramsey was the man chosen to fill in for Joelinton as he attempted to kick start his start to life with the Magpies.

The 29-year-old has been almost ever-present for Eddie Howe since his move into midfield.

Joelinton played 90 minutes in the 2-0 win over Athletic Club on Wednesday as well as completing the 3-1 defeat to West Ham last weekend and the 2-1 victory at home to Fulham before that.

He is also a regular for the national team and has become part of Carlo Ancelotti’s trusted stars.
